General information related to NCC -important facts

  • NCC was introduced/conceptualized in India by British Government  with the name of University Corp during 1st World War.
  • Aim of University Corp was raising a second line of defense of trained youth. After Independence NCC formally came into existence on July 15, 1948 through XXI Act of Parliament.
  • Girls Division was raised in July 1949.
  • On April01, 1950 Air Wing was raised.
  • In July 1952 Naval Wing was raised.
  • Today NCC has enrolled more than 14 Lakh cadets in all the three services.  
  • NCC has two divisions SD/SW and JD/JW.
  • SD/SW is for class XI, XII and College and JD/JW for School.
  • JD → Junior Division → Boys  &  JW-→ Junior Wings -→ Girls.
  • SD → Senior Division → Boys &  SW→ Senior Wing → Girls.

  • NCC is administrated by the Ministry of Defence.
  • Defence Minister is overall in-charge and responsible for is efficient working.
  • NCC headquarter is situated in New Delhi, headed by an official of the rank of Lieutenant General.
  • There are 17 Directorates pan India covering all 28 states and 8 union territories.
  • The NCC at state level is divided into 17 Directorates, in which each state or group of states forms a Directorate. The smaller states and union territories are attached with Directorates of the bigger states.
  • The Directorates are further sub-divided into groups, which varies according to the size of the state. In all there are 99 Group Headquarters in the country.
  • Each Directorate is under the command of an officer equivalent to the rank of a Brigadier or is equivalent from the other two services.
  • Directorates have up to 14 Group headquarters in the states. Each group is headed by officer of the Rank of Brigadier/Colonel or equivalent known as Group Commander.
  • Each NCC group HQ Controls 5-7 Units/Battalions commanded by Colonel/Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent.
  • There are two training academies - Officers Training Academy, Gwalior for women and Kamptee for men where professors and teachers from colleges and schools are trained to impart training to cadets as Associate NCC officers (ANO's).
  • Regular officers drawn from three services WLTO, ANO, GCI, PI staff, Civilian Gilding Instructors, Ship Instructors, Civilian Staff.
  • Good and organized training is an important part of NCC. It is under institutional training, camp training, attachment training, naval, air wing activities, remount and veterinary activities.


Aims of NCC

The aims of NCC are mainly three-fold:

(a) To develop following qualities in the cadets:

(i) Character  (ii)  Comradeship   (iii) Discipline   (iv) Secular outlook      (v) Spirit of               adventure (vi) Ideals of selfless service

(b) To create a human resource of organised, trained and motivated youth.

 to provide leadership in all walks of life which will serve the nation       regardless  of which career they choose.

(c) To provide an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to choose the Armed Forces as a career.  

 

Objectives of NCC:

The objectives of the NCC are:

(a) Train volunteer youth to become confident, committed and competent leaders in all walks of life

(b) Enhance awareness levels of cadets to become responsible citizens of the country.

(c) Provide opportunities and encourage cadets to enrich their knowledge, develop communication skills and build character.

(d) Conduct social activities and community development programmes, to make constructive contributions towards society.

(e) Undertake adventure activities to hone leadership qualities and risk-taking abilities.

(f) Provide a platform to launch 'Goodwill Ambassadors' to project the image of country overseas.

(g) Conduct military training to develop awareness about Armed Forces, leadership skills and military values, thus, provide an environment to motivate cadets to join the Armed Forces.

 

CADET :

  • Cadets are the integral part of NCC and they are divided into two divisions, i.e., SD/SW and JD/ JW.
  • An NCC cadet once enrolled has certain duties and responsibilities unlike has her peers in the institution.

 

Responsibilities of Cadets:

  • The duties and responsibilities are towards nation, society at large, his institution, NCC organisation and to his fellow cadets too.
  • DGNCC has given out a list of Cadets commandments for all NCC cadets to follow in their lives.
